Her ritual
A poem ✂️
you’re sitting in her chair,
ready to let something go.
you’ve been holding onto these ends
split, frayed, familiar
like they were proof,
that you lived your life to the fullest up until now.
when you sit in Kristina’s chair,
she doesn’t rush you.
she reads the room before she
reads your
spirit,
body,
and hair.
creating space and,
asking questions about your hair,
but much more about the whole you.
there’s a ritual to it all.
the way her hands already know
what you haven’t said yet.
you didn’t come here just for a cut,
color,
style,
you picked her because this is one of the few people,
few hair artists,
where being unfinished is allowed,
where the imperfection isn’t something to fix
but something to work with.
she’s not making you into something new.
she’s just clearing the way
for what was already there.
and when you look up
at the mirror,
you’re just
a little more
you.
it’s an easy choice, sitting in that chair.
and that’s something to be acknowledged.
to be seen.
to be celebrated.
because what you’re actually doing
is saying YES! to yourself
for an hour,
or two or three,
and you just let the ritual
her ritual,
heal the day,
for you, for me, for her
in the most extraordinary way.

I love this poem, Ryan!
"she’s not making you into something new.
she’s just clearing the way
for what was already there"
Kristina, wish I was closer to sit in your chair!
